O’s – Nats, Budding Beltway Battle!

Getting revved up for the first inter-league series of the year between the first place O’s and first place Nats.  The intriguing story line is the power of the O’s (MLB leading 61 HRs) vs. the pitching of the Nats and their MLB leading team ERA of .289.  And the Nats staff has given up the fewest taters in the bigs (20) as well.

Adam Jones

Adam Jones is just killing the ball and has jumped to second in the AL in home runs behind Josh Hamilton.  If Jones is a B-52 bomber, Hamilton is a nuclear detonation.  The guy is unbelievable and currently is in first place in all triple crown categories (18/45/.399).

Josh Hamilton

Unfortunately, his power surge began last week at the expense of the O’s with that four homer – 18 total bases game.  Definitely threw a wet rag over the promising early season start for the birds staff, but they recovered nicely taking 3 out of 4 from the Yankees and Royals.

While the Nats are pitching great, they have been beset by the injury bug and their offense is middle of the pack at best.

Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper, despite hitting only .238, is showing signs of power as he belted his first two career homers in the last week.  Harper is generating some serious buzz out at the park.

If the O’s can get five or six innings out of each starter and hand the game over to their MLB leading bullpen (.213 ERA) I think they win 2 of 3.  I will be on hand for the Friday night game so stop by section 320 – row D.  I’ll be the guy in the orange Markakis jersey.  Looking forward to an excellent weekend of baseball in the capital city!
