Matusz – Berken pounded like it was last year

Oh no O’s fans.  It only took one night, but the sight of Brian Matusz and Jason Berken getting lit up like a Christmas tree was eerily similar to last year and made me start to wonder if our new found success on the mound will all come unwrapped in one series with the defending American League champion Texas Rangers.  Don’t get me wrong, I know the bullpen could not pitch last night after the 17-inning affair in Boston, but the demotion of Tommy “Gopher Ball” Hunter coupled with the unfortunate blast from the past is unsettling.

What a test Jake Arrieta has in front of him tonight.  This Rangers club can flat out hit and the Orioles need to restore some confidence in the starting staff.  The good news is that J.J. Hardy is starting to hit, as is Mark Reynolds, but the infield defense is still very porous.  I have no idea why the team signed 37 year old Miguel Tejada.  Are they serious about bringing him in?  The platoon at third base between Betemit and Reynolds tells me Buck is not happy with the defense on the hot corner.

Looking for seven strong innings from Jake tonight.  Let’s Go O’s!
