Break out the Jake Arrieta bobbleheads!

Jake mows down the Yanks on May 2.

Any O’s fan who caught Arrietas’s eight inning five-hit masterpiece, and series clinching win against the Yankees last night has got to be excited.  The staff gave up all of three runs in three games to the Bombers, are you serious?

After 25 games, Baltimore’s team ERA is an A.L. best 2.83 and is nearly half a run better than the second place club.  Compared to their 25-game mark last year of 4.47 you can why we are excited.  These guys haven’t pitched this good in decades, and while it’s still early, props go out to manager Buck Showalter and GM Dan Duquette for getting this team ready to play.

The early season report card is not all A’s, however.  The O’s are last in stolen bases with six and strike out way too much (185 – 5th most).   Power numbers are up (3rd in homers with 34) and 4th in doubles with 46.  So they’re right about where they should be, sporting a 16-9 record and 1 1/2 games behind the red hot Rays.

Another huge three game series coming up against the Red Sox in Boston over the weekend.  Chen, Hammel, and Hunter will take the hill for the O’s and I’m looking to take two of three from the Sox.  Good luck to us, Let’s Go O’s!
