O’s off to a hot start; now the test.

Awesome 5-1 home stand in the books complete with Wilson Betemit’s coup de grace in the bottom of the 9th against Oakland on Sunday.  Quick side-note about the A’s.  I’m totally flabbergasted watching these guys battle to within a game of .500 considering how bad their roster looks on paper.  They clearly can’t hit and have lost their two best pitchers from last year (Gio Gonzalez and Trevor Cahill.)  Does GM Billy Beane have another moneyball scheme up his sleeve?  I’m not into prognosticating for anything other than recreational purposes, but I had Oakland possibly losing 120 games before the season started.  Am I nuts?

The O’s set off on what could be their toughest stretch of the season with their next 15 games against the Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, Rays, and Yankees again.  May have caught an early break against New York as the Yanks starting pitching is underperforming.  Of the 13 pitchers on the Yankees active roster, all five starters have the highest ERAs.  Despite the Yanks early season success against the O’s, if Baltimore can get to New York in the early innings, they might take two of three in the Bronx.  Let’s Go O’s!
