Tremendously entertaining first round Stanley Cup match-up ends with the good guys taking a 2 to 1 victory in overtime and closing out Boston in seven games. Top kudos go to the grunt liners Joel Ward, Matt Hendricks, and Mike Knuble. Great to see Knuble excel in the last two games after being a healthy scratch.
Dale Hunter, in his strange silent fashion, has finally found a way to motivate these guys to the point of 100% buy-in and the strategy of Ovechkin logging very low minutes in the final was odd, but sure worked as the Caps came out in the overtime really up on their skates.
Second round opponent is unknown at this point but I LOVE the prospects of playing as the underdog. Gone is the baggage of being the best team in the regular season over the last two or three years, and to be honest, playing on the road is fine and not having to defend your home ice or your reputation as the king of the hill is great. Absolutely no pressure either way.
With Vancouver, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Chicago out in the first round, can this team realistically go all the way?
